Lane's career began to take shape in the mid-70s, after beginning to record for her husband's record label. Her first singles, "Trying to Forget About You" and "Sweet Deceiver", were released in 1977 followed by her first major hit, "Let Me Down Easy", by the end of the year. After having a series of Top 10 and 20 country hits, she signed with United Artists Records, and had her biggest hit with "One Day at a Time", a Gospel song, that peaked at No. 1 on the Country charts.

 I BELIEVE IN ANGELS

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness still another mile
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

Blue Christmas

I'll have a blue Christmas without you
I'll be so blue thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing dear, if you're not here with me

And when those blue snowflakes start fallin'
That's when those blue heartaches start callin'
You'll be doin' all right, with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas

Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing dear, if you're not here with me

And when those blue snowflakes start fallin'
That's when those blue heartaches start callin'
You'll be doin' all right, with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas

   3.   WHISPERING HOPE

Soft as the voice of an angel,
breathing a lesson unheard
Hope with a gentle persuasion,
whispers a comforting word

Wait till the darkness is over,
wait till the tempest is done
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
after the darkness is gone

Whispering hope
oh how welcome Thy voice
making my heart
in its sorrow rejoice

If in the dusk of the twilight,
dimmed be the region afar
Will not the deepening darkness,
brighten the glimmering star

Then when the night is upon us,
why should the heart sink away
When the dark midnight is over,
watch for the breaking of day

Whispering hope
oh how welcome Thy voice
making my heart
any sorrow rejoice

   4.      RELEASE ME

Please release me, let me go,
For I don't love you anymore.
To live a lie would be a sin.
Release me and let me love again.

I have found a new love, dear.
And I will always want her near.
Her lips are warm where yours are cold.
Release me, darling, let me go.

5.       FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

(Spoken)
One night I had a dream. I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the lord.
And across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One set belonged to me, and the other to the lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. And I noticed that many times along the path of life, there was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life. This really bothered me so I questioned the lord about it.
(Sung)
One set of footprints in the sand
Lord, you promised me you'd hold my hand
Tell my why in the troubled time I looked back and I would find
One set of footprints in the sand

(Spoken)
Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life thereI's only one set of footsteps. I donI't understand why in times I needed you most you should leave me. And the Lord replied, My precious, precious child, I love you. And I would never, never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I was carrying you.

(Sung)
One set of footprints in the sand
Oh yes, at last I understand
Through every storm he carried me now I praise the lord each time I see
One set of footprints in the sand
One set of footprints in the sand

6.       THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true,
]It's shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then he'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where his glory forever I'll share.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
